    Dear Members :

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with following configuration:
    Intel C2D P8700 (2.53GHz/1066 FSB/3MB Cache)
    4 GB Memory
320 GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD

I need more memory and higher capacity internal HDD. Should I go for upgrade or purchase one of i7-3612QM (from Dell with 8GB memory and 1TB HDD) ?
If I would like to sale current laptop, what's it's worth in USD - could you please advice - do appreciate very much ?

    Thanks.
    Atanu

I would look at a new laptop, i believe you would be limited to 4 GB on the 1545.

As for what you can get my guess would be in the $ 200.00 - $250.00 range depending on condition, and warranty status

I was going to say that even though the 1545 might not officially support more than 4GB, you could probably use more... but it seems like it does officially support up to 8GB, according to the official documentation: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1545/en/SG/F123HA01MR.pdf

That being said, if 8GB is enough and you're happy with the 1545, there much impetus to go for the 3612, unless you're specifically CPU limited, etc, in which case you should upgrade anyway. The $200 to $250 is about right for what you're going to get for the old machine, though.

Thanks very much. So you are saying, if I go for 3612QM, processor speed would be faster ? Could you please tell, comparing P8700+
8GB RAM+1 TB HDD (assuming upgrade possible) versus 3612QM with 8 GB RAM and 1 TB internal HDD (Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition) - whether
later would be way faster ? Much appreciate.

You can't upgrade the P8700 to the 3612QM, but what he meant was it is incomparable, it is a Penryn Core 2 Duo vs any Ivy Bridge quad core CPU. That newer Inspiron would stomp your old 1545 flat, but you are also comparing a brand new laptop to a 4 year old laptop.
