Dell's DataSafe is the recovery software...why are you asking if there is another way to do it? The only other way is getting a Dell Windows 7 disc + drivers disc, or doing a Vanilla install of Windows 7.

Okay if your F8 doesn't have the Dell DataSafe it means your recovery partition is hosed/gone. Do you have Dell discs for your machine? Worst case order them online..

No it is just the OS. The ONLY way to get the recovery partition back is to find someone else who has the discs and reimaging your system with them.

Assuming you have a legitimate Windows 7 CoA/key (Dell or not), you can nuke your drive, install a vanilla 7, and activate it with said CoA. You do not necessarily need a Dell OEM Windows 7.

^^ ya above, but I prefer the Dell disc as it preactivates Windows in case your COA is rubbed off/illegible. If your COA is rubbed off, you MUST use the Dell disc or purchase a new license (Dell disc is far cheaper and common) assuming you have the right COA.

The Dell discs don't need the COA, it will automatically activate.

I have a question. I tried this (with F8/Advanced Boot Options) and was able to get to the correct screen... but I can't hightlight/press "Enter" to continue. Maybe it's a mousepad problem? Also the arrow down key works, but not the Up key. so I'm stuck and can't continue with the recovery process.
    :(
