i don't have this option on it. Select: Dell DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup. Is there a way to get to it with out having that option???

I would think dell datasafe would work in the same way, but i'll get back to you on that.

Dell's DataSafe is the recovery software...why are you asking if there is another way to do it? The only other way is getting a Dell Windows 7 disc + drivers disc, or doing a Vanilla install of Windows 7.
-
how do you get dell's data safe???

Okay if your F8 doesn't have the Dell DataSafe it means your recovery partition is hosed/gone. Do you have Dell discs for your machine? Worst case order them online..
-
is the dell recovery on the disks???

SO is there any way to use the image that is on the hard drive right now to fix it. I have a non oem windows 7 installed right now. I have some images that say they are dell but i don't believe they are. any suggestions?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Assuming you have a legitimate Windows 7 CoA/key (Dell or not), you can nuke your drive, install a vanilla 7, and activate it with said CoA. You do not necessarily need a Dell OEM Windows 7.

^^ ya above, but I prefer the Dell disc as it preactivates Windows in case your COA is rubbed off/illegible. If your COA is rubbed off, you MUST use the Dell disc or purchase a new license (Dell disc is far cheaper and common) assuming you have the right COA.

There isn't a coa on the bottom of the laptop so i not sure how to get it other than the recovery partition???

The Dell discs don't need the COA, it will automatically activate.

I have a question. I tried this (with F8/Advanced Boot Options) and was able to get to the correct screen... but I can't hightlight/press "Enter" to continue. Maybe it's a mousepad problem? Also the arrow down key works, but not the Up key. so I'm stuck and can't continue with the recovery process.
