Hello everyone! I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

My built in microphone stopped working all of a sudden. I haven't had any problems with it since I've bought the laptop. This morning I was getting ready for a Skype call (my first one) with the echo/sound test service and it worked just fine. Later on when I was setting up the video call, my friend couldn't hear me. I've looked through the settings and it says that it's on. Microphone Array (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC) is selected in both Skype and the settings, but it won't record sound. I tried recording from the Webcam Center, but still no sound.

I would prefer having the integrated mic instead of an external, so I'll try just about anything!

    Hi sherky,

I hope you have tried the troubleshooting steps suggested by sparkyman2000 and KSMB. If you are still facing the same problem, running a hardware test on the Microphone will help to understand if the hardware has failed. If you have the Dell Support Center application installed in your Computer; please open the same and run a test on the Microphone.
Please use the link mentioned below to download and install the Dell Support Center if required.

To test the Microphone you can also try the steps mentioned below.

    1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Multimedia (or Entertainment), and then click Sound Recorder.
    2. Click the Record button, and speak into the microphone. The green waveform should react to your voice.
    3. To end the recording, click Stop.
    4. To hear your recording, click the Play button.

I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance on the same.

    Thanks & Regards
