Hey, I just got my new Inspiron 1520 a few days ago. On the first day, i received a blue screen after playing some Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. After I got the blue screen, the laptop could not start up properly and just kept receiving a blue screen shortly after it was started up, when it was able too. I decided to reinstall Vista. I installed all the drivers on the CD (Assuming they're up to date since i just got the laptop that day) and install all my programs back. I play Warcraft III: Frozen Throne again and it runs fine, yeah there were some lag spikes here and there, but overall, it ran fine. I stopped playing and went back to my basic programs (i.e. AIM, Internet) 10 min later, i get a blue screen and was unable to start up again til the morning.

    I installed:
    AIM
    FireFox 2
    MapleStory
    Warcraft III: Frozen Throne
    Steam (no games installed yet)
    AVG Free Edition
    SpyBot S&D
    Spyware Blaster
    Spyware Guard
    the webcam program
    WinRAR

    My System:
    Inspiron 1520, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2 Cache
    2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    160G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic Edition, English
Integrated 10/100 Network Cardand Modem, for Inspiron
    Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
    Intel 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini Card
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Prim

(I'm a noob when it comes to computers, i just copied and pasted the stuff that looked important from my order.)

I ran into this thread after a borked install on a Dell Inspiron 1520, from Vista Basic to Vista Ultimate, where it looped in a BSOD right after install. pgonzo2k's suggestion to remove the battery did the trick, and it continues to boot successfully after replacing the battery.

By the way, this was BIOS version A00, and A03 is available at this time. (For visitor's convenience, at the time of this post, this link led to Dell's updates for this system). We did not try a BIOS upgrade.

i also got the BSOD at first boot up.. it's a hardware issue. i just called dell up and after sending a dell tech to fix it, it still persisted, so then they decided to ship me a new one, which i received today. it only took 6 business days, though they promised 3-5 business days. -.-

What does the BSOD say? Is it always the same thing? We need more information to give you a solid place to start looking...
