    Hi everybody,

I just newly installed Windows XP Pro to my Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook, but audio driver for windows xp does not work! That's what i did in order :

    1. Installed Windows XP Pro
    2. Installed Intel Chipset Drivers first (R153997.exe)
    3. Installed VGA Drivers (R160738.exe)
    4. Tried installing Audio Drivers (R158235.exe)

,but it says "There is no supportable hardware for this computer"

Is there anyone who completed installing audio drivers correctly? Please help me :(

    Ozan

OK the setup for the audio driver wont work directly.... What you need to do is extract that file R158253.exe to a location on your hard drive.... Then go into Device Manager and you will be seeing a device listed under System Devices with a yellow exclamation mark near it..... Double click on that device and choose to reinstall drivers and choose the location where you had extracted the audio drivers and choose the WDM folder.... Xp will automatically install the audio driver.... And then it will ask for the modem driver automatically saying Modem Device on HD Audio Bus or something like that.... There give the location for the extracted modem drivers....

do you mean R158253.exe OR R158235.exe ? I downloaded 2nd one and it still does not work . I located WDM folder in C:/Dell/Driver/R158235/WDM , but still there is no sound! Also , i am using XP SP2 -TR and downloaded correct drivers for that language version of XP. Please help me !

That's funny. The opposite happened for me. It wouldn't recognize pointing the drivers, so I had to use the installer. ;(

I play all my games on my Inspiron 1520 in XP with full sound capabilities and I do not understand why the drivers wont work..... I believe I downloaded this file from DELL : http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R158235.EXE

And then ran that executable and extracted the drivers to a folder.... After that it ran the setup automatically and it closed without displaying any error messages.... I then went into Device manager - saw the NOT WORKING PROPERLY PCI SYSTEM DEVICE - selected reinstall driver and pointed it to the extracted location\WDM and it installed the Audio Device Drivers.... If this doesnt work I do not know the problem.... I have so far reinstalled XP four times freshly and at all atempts the driver got installed fine without any problems.... I myself use a XP SP2 slipstreamed with RyamVM's update pack.... Make sure you have installed the Intel chipset drivers prior to installing the Audio Drivers....

Update : There is a kb835221.exe and a qfe.exe files in the HDAQFE\win2k_xp\us folder... Try running these as it may help in fixing the audio driver problem.... Then try to install the audio driver....

Yup install Sigma audio drivers from http://supportapj.dell.com then select your location or go to this link http://http://supportapj.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=in&l=en&s=gen and click on the Inspiron menu from the notebook image. Another page will launch and will show you an option of all the Inspiron notebooks manufactured. Select 1520 on your right (you might need to scroll down a bit). Click on confirm and another page will launch giving you an option of three menus. Click on Drivers&Downloads http://http://supportapj.dell.com/s...rt/en/product_support_central?c=in&l=en&s=gen.

Otherwise you can choose to go directly to this link

    http://supportapj.dell.com/support/...SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1520&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en

Expand the Audio menu which has a + sign assigned next to it and you shall find SIGMATEL-Driver

Click on Download Now and after you have downloaded, extrct to any partition either C or D or whatever you have created and the setup/ install will automatically launch. Follow the steps and after installation if it does not request for a computer Restart, restart manually and all should be fine. If you need any assistance please let me know.

I am also an owner of a Dell Inspiron 1520 which is giving me problems with installation of Linux.

    Nice time.

The sigma audio drivers are the only drivers that seem to work
