I was watching Hulu on my inspiron 1520, i bought it in 2007 and never had display issues, but in the middle of my video, my screen went completely crazy. half the screen when black while the rest started having lines go across it. It looks as if someone dropped the computer and broke the screen, but it was safely on my lap. I dont know what to do, when i start it up I can sometimes see a little bit but when it gets to the user selection screen, the screen slowly starts getting white, and I can't make a single thing out on the screen, so i cant even log in and download a new driver or anything. If i start it in safe mode, i cant do anything with the internet. Dell won't help because i am not under warranty. I also ran a PSA Diagnostics, but cant really do anything because I cant read the results or anything. Any suggestions?

Can you display externally with no problems? If you can, likely it is a defective LCD. 1520 WXGA screen shouldn't be more than like 90 bucks..

If I recall correctly, the Inspiron 1520 could be configured with a GeForce 8600M GT which could possibly have failed.
But that is weird if only half the screen went out like that.

The 1520 has a removable 8600M GT Dell module. If it did fail, you can easily replace it once you remove the palmrest, though his problems is usually LCD related.
