    Hello all,

Due to difficulty to decide about a new laptop for travelling i want now to replace the actual screen of my old Dell Inspiron 1520. It is now the 2nd 1680x1050 screen from LG in it, first one was replaced by Dell guarantee because of low brightness. First scren was from Samsung which i liked more regarding color fidelity. Always i profile my scrrens and was not 100% satisfied with these 2 screens.

I need a good display to do my photo workflow during travelling. Maybe it is perfect tuning my old 1520, safer in foreign countries... :D

Now I found two serious options: 2 CCFL screens from LG/Philips and Samsung LTN154U2-L06 with SUXGA 1920x1200:

    Dell Inspiron 1520 1525 XPS 1530 15.4" LCD WUXGA Glossy - eBay (item 190418058194 end time Feb-08-11 07:48:46 PST)

LG Philips LP154WU1(A1)(K2) Laptop LCD Screen 15.4 WUXGA Glossy

Regarding the LG type i am not sure about correct type - there are variants.

My second idea is to built the 2CCFL screen from the Precision M4400 in my Inspiron. That should work adding the richt inverter too? maybe...

This screen has 300cd and 75% gamut - so perfect for sRGB (data from Dell). I found this thread here:

M4300 WUXGA display einbau (2CCFL) - Dell Precision Forum

It's in German - one user tried the 2CCFL screen from M4400 in the M4300 (similar to Inspiron) and get it working with only one lamp with old inverter - I assume it should be possible with right inverter from M4400 to get it working on my Inspiron too. Prices i found are attractive:

    15.4"LCD SCREEN DELL Precision M4400 WUXGA 1920x1200 DU - eBay (item 160440660180 end time Feb-25-11 23:56:42 PST)

Mayeb some user here know more about the specific technical issues regarding the power connections for both CCFL lamps in this screen.

This is XPS forum, but anyway, are you sure you need that kind of a resolution in such a small screen?

    Hi,

Older XPS m1530 models have same screens - therefore better ask here. ;)

Yes this resolution is very fine, but perfect for photoworks - so I can calculate/scale pics to same resolution as with desktop monitor. My eyes have no problem and you can scale size of letters with WIN7 good.

My primary concern regarding quality of laptop is screen quality - if that is good i can work quick, if bad the best hardware can not help...

And these old 2CCFL models have very good quality regarding D6500K and sRGB gamut - some Sony models or the famous big Lenovo W700 or Alienware M17X shine here too...

Regarding newer LED models I discovered in most cases very cool color temperature. That is difficult to handle for 6Bit TN display - profiling does not help here ...

So I am interested here if some XPS M1530 owners can report on their WUXGA screen quality. Thanks!!! :)

    Best, Walter

I've got 3 M1530 machines all with 1920x1200 screens and swear by them. People say that the DPI is too small but you get so much screen 'real estate' you can easily have multiple apps open on your desktop without problems.

Oh and I'm old enough that I had to start wearing glasses last year, not for the laptops but because I was starting to struggle to read normal small text.

I am sure to have no problems with the extra fine resolution.

What I am interested is the color fidelity of the WUXGA screens. Maybe someone profiled them and can tell...

My present WSXGA screen is not very good regarding colors - i had both - first the Samsung and then as replacement the LG.

Please see the bad gamut on both screens...

Wow.. Those are pretty bad. Especially the blue. Usually at least the blue is more or less on target, even if it's short on red.

I would go with your first option available, it comes with an inverter and that means you don't have to go out of your way to get a new one. The display functions should work just fine with your video card, as it is the best available so that shouldn't have any problems. You are on the right track, I have Samsung as well and I had it before as well, I replaced my screen literally a few days ago. My previous screen lasted me since December 2007.
