What does this mean? It started randomly blinking and goes on and off.

I'm usually on top of my laptop but this is a bit new to me.

    Hi Mihael Keehl,

You are right; normally the Wi-Fi indicator should turn on when wireless networking is enabled. However, the battery indicator only turns on steadily or blinks if the charge is low to indicate the battery charge status. Does the laptop have issues with the wireless connectivity? If so please consider updating the Wireless Card Driver.
Please find the below mentioned link to download the Drivers for Inspiron 1520.

    Troubleshooting

If this doesn’t help, reseating the wireless card may help fix the issue. You can follow the steps below to reseat the wireless card.
Please Note: During installation or removal of any hardware, always power down the system and ensure all data is backed up. Disconnect any external peripherals including the AC adapter and battery.

    1. Loosen the two captive screws on the cover of the communications card cover. ( Adjacent to the battery latch)
    2. Remove the communications card cover.
    3. Disconnect the two antenna cables from the WLAN 802.11 b/g Mini-Card.
    4. Tuck the antenna cables into the plastic sleeve.
    5. Release the WLAN Mini-Card by pushing the metal securing tabs toward the back of the computer until the card pops up slightly.
    6. Lift the WLAN Mini-Card out of its system board connector at an angle.
    7. Remove the WLAN Mini-Card.
    8. To reinstall this part, reverse the preceding steps.
Please find the below mentioned link to download / view the Service manual for the Inspiron 1520. You can refer to the topic ‘Wireless Mini card’ for the above mentioned information along with pictures.
