    Hello Everyone

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop, last week when switching on the laptop I was presented with an error saying "Disk Read Error", the laptop would not boot up at all not even in safe mode.

I ran Dell diagnostics and it gave me a error code of 0146 which is harddrive related. I then attempted to repair the windows installation using chkdsk /p and /r but this seems to have made things worse! When booting up, all i can see is a blank screen!

So i decided a new harddrive is required. The harddrive in there is a Samsung SATA 60GB RPM the model number is HM060HI.

I was wondering would this hard drive that i found on ebuyer be compatible with my laptop?

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150515

The dimensions are the same (7cm x 10cm 9.5) So is the RPM.

Any Help would much appreciated. Thanks

You can use any 2.5" SATA HDD, including the one you linked. They do not need to be of identical RPM, capacity, platter count, or anything like that. You could even drop in an SSD if you want, which I'd always recommend :)

Just out of curiousity why do you reccomend SSD?

And could you link a good SSD drive please?

For a Dell 1501 I do not recommend a SSD drive ( it will cost 4 to 5x more!)

A lot of "Speed junkies" Recommend SSD because the access time for your Data read is very fast but for most users they will not see any real performance increases.

For the price of a 250gb SSD you could buy your 1501 in perfect condition on Ebay. ( around 200 pounds EBAY UK )

SSD is the future but I refuse to pay such high prices for these now when you can get HD's at 70% less cost.

When I checked last month 256gb HD in the UK was around 300 to 400 pounds a lot of change

    Source currently

    2nd source

So 60 pounds for 500gb vs 400 pounds for 256gb super fast up to you
