    Hiya,

Been trying to fix my 2 year Dell Inspiron 1501 old laptop.

It boots up ok in to Windows XP, will run for a couple of minutes ie. find a wireless network, start up IE and then it will freeze. The weird thing is that the mouse cursor still moves.

CTRL + ALT + DEL has no affect.

So far I have tryed the follwing:

    • Booted in Safe mode and ran Malwarebytes, and carried out a full scan with Avast, took around 12 hrs.
    • Replaced the CPU fan for a new one.
    • It has two banks of memory - tryed one on its own, then the other and then both - still the same affect.

One thing that is strange, is that it seems to run for longer before it freezes when I had it all dismantled but with all the components plugged in.

The only other thing I can try is to either re-install XP (not sure if this will help) or run Everest diagnostics on it - cant download this quick enough though!

    Any help much appreciated.

    Vince

Does it only freeze when you load up IE? What about other browsers?

    Hiya, thanks for the reply.

It will lock up no matter what your loading - should have made it clearer. Was mentioning IE as a sort of time frame to how long it takes till the system stops responding.

When checking memory and cpu usage before the freeze there is no problem with plenty of resources available.
