    I was just wondering if someone here knows when will the Dell Inspiron 1420 be available in Europe?
    The story is that I'm about to get Inspiron 1520, but I'm still quite unhappy with its size and weight. Recently I came across 1420, which seems to be a better deal...But its just not available in my country, and God knows when it will be (I live in Lithuania). So I'm quite confused right now. :confused:

    Hmm I think it is available on all DELL sites (even in Europe).... May be it is not available on the DELL NOTEBOOK Home Page.... Try searching for 1420 on that site which will give you a link automatically to that product...

    The 1420 is on the Dell site here in the UK, (if you search for it, it's not openly advertised) but only to stipulate that the unit isn't available to buy in this territory.

    No idea why not. :(

    That's quite funny, isn't it? 1420 seems to be one of the best notebook offers, and I'm sure it would do just great in Europe. I guess I'll have to stay with 1520, except for the weight/size issues, it's probably not a bad choice...

    Oops just now noticed this :

    May be it didnt get such a big hit in the European market as expected and so DELL decided to scrap it off from their site.... It is still available in DELL India though....

    As far as I'm aware there has never actually been a 14" Inspiron offered on Dell UK.

    Isnt the inspiron 1420 the same as the vostro 1400 (availble in the UK) in a different color?

    Pretty much, but without the jazzy lids. It's weird that they offer one and not the other though.

    Totally.

    Don't wait around for the 1420...the Vostro 1400 is available here and now.
    And in the UK its a proper great price at the mo.

    I just ordered mine with the following spec;

    CPU: T7500 - 2.2ghz core 2 duo
    HDD: 160 gig - 5400 rpm
    RAM: 2gig - 2 x 1gb sticks
    SCREEN: 1440 x 900
    GPU: nvidia 8400 - with 128mb ram
    BATTERY: 6 cell
    WARRANTY: 1 year.

    For the vostro 1400 I paid;
    £681.57

    If I wanted the vostro 1500 with that spec, at the moment it costs;
    £728.57

    But specing up the same machine on the inspiron 1520 costs a massive:
    £1074.49

    That's a whopping £350 more than the vostro...and they are the same machine, except for the colour -- and a couple of other little things.

    Ie. if you're going to be upgrading stuff...don't even think about waiting for the 1420 -- buy a Vostro 1400... and then think about paying someone £100 for a custom paint job...if you really need that.

    I found out some details about the 1420 not being available in Europe. Quote:

    "I've seen this complaint over and over again on IdeaStorm, people outside the US wanting products presently only being sold in the US, regardless of system model or OS, etc.

    You have to realize that when we roll out a new product/model we have to roll it out in stages or we hit a huge backorder issue and everyone ends up with a serious delay on ship dates. This, in turn, provides legal complications in that we have to fulfill the orders within a certain amount of time or we have to cancel the order unless we have the customer's permission to hold the order until the new estimated ship date.

    It's coming, just give it a little time.

    The Vostro 1400 has the same look but I think the Inspiron benefits from a spill resistant keyboard and magnesium alloy reinforcements (besides custom lids). I really want a second opinion about these details so I know whether to wait for the Inspiron and see the pricing because on the US site the Vostro is way cheaper.
