Hi all, First post here.. :)

I just ordered Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop and am wondering about the Power adapter brick ...

Is it the same as previous Inspiron Models like 1501, 700m? Or is it the same as the current Latitude models such as D420, D630, etc ?

The reason I am asking is because I am looking for a dell pa-12 power adapter that would allow me to charge my laptop using the car/auto cigarrete ligher plugs.

Any input appreciated... Otherwise, I'd just have to wait for my 1420 to arrive :)

You have to check first if the laptop you ordered has a 65W or 90W ac adapter. Most (if not all) newer systems like the 1501, D420, D630, etc... have the same ac adapter with currently shipping systems. Better yet, just check the pa-12 power adapter that you have and see if it is compatible. Anyway, if the wattage of the ac adapter is lower than what your system can support, it can still power up the system, but might not be able to charge the battery.

The power adapter is exactly the same as the ones in Inspiron 1405 and Inspiron 700m. I have both units, so I know. The only difference is that the newer adapter comes with 2 head plugs instead of 3 head plugs. So, that means no grouding for the newer adaptor??? Anyone can confrim this?

The 1420 uses a 90W-AC adapter and is based on the PA-10 family.

    DP/N DF266
    PA-1900-01D3

It is much larger than my PA-12 (65 watt) used on my Inspiron 6000.

One thing I forgot to mention, on the bottom of the 1420, it states that it is compatible with both the PA-10 and PA-12.

that's odd, I have 2 1420, both come with 65W adaptor. I have extra 90W adaptor. It does look bigger than the 65W. I have not plug in the 90W adaptor into my 1420 yet. Anyways, if your laptop is shipped with 65W adapter, it should be the same and competible with 1405 and 700m a/c adapters.

I just received my 1420 today and it came with 90W adapter.

The plug is the same with older inspiron model.

I can use the 65W with my Laptop as well, although I am not sure how's the charge going to be.

Now I am sitting on the fence on whether or not I should get the slim 65W dell adapter.... :( That one would be nice as I can charge in my car.
