Go to station drivers they have all the drivers you need also use search engine on dell website and look for drivers by name instead by laptop. Media Direct 3.5 will not work on W7, you have to use MD 4 from studio 15 if you want to use the MD button. Inspiron 1420 is 100% compatible with W7 so just look for the drivers.

Win7 was never offered on this system, so there won't be any Dell drivers (at least I1420 specific)

What you can do is this:

    1. Go to support.dell.com
    2. Click on the Warranty Status link on the left hand side.
    3. Put in your service tag.
    4. Click the Original System Configuration. This will give you the components that your system has in it.
    5. Google the components and go to the manufacturer's website to try and find drivers. i.e. you would get the Geforce 8400M driver from nVidia if your system is so equipped: NVIDIA DRIVERS 257.21 WHQL

Good luck. If you can't find a certain driver, make a list of devices that you see in device manager and compare to the original configuration. This will help narrow it down.

Once you have narrowed it down, post here if needed and perhaps I or someone else can help.

For the most part, everything is going to be picked up "out of the box". The only thing missing might be the wireless card and nvidia card ... if it's intel, you're going to work no problems.

Microsoft has some good win7 drivers (surprisingly) for nvidia card. The wireless drivers, if not picked up, can be got from Dell from different models that support Win7 or from the manufacturer IE - Intel wireless card on Dell doesn't support Win7, so go to intel and get drivers for win7
