There were no touchpad drivers available for my Dell Inspiron 14 - 5458. So, I tried installing drivers from Synaptic:

    drivers.synaptics.com/Synaptics_v19_0_19_1__C__x86-x64__Win10__Signed__MS_Win10_UXUI_PS2_SMbus.zip

But, I couldn't get the drivers to install. It does not report any errors. It is NOT an unsigned driver issue. The driver goes through all of the install steps and even finishes WITHOUT any errors. However, the driver is never actually installed.

I'm at my wit's end, I've tried everything including:
    • The ignore unsigned drivers reboot (#7) method
    • Installing the drivers manually from Device Manager using the "I Have My Own Driver Disk" method and every variant
    • Installing the drivers directly from the "x64" subfolder from the zip package
I love Dell laptops but I don't understand how such a rich, multinational corporation still can't get touchpads right in 2015? Dell touchpads are the most disappointing and frustrating part of owning a Dell. It's a glaring flaw since touchpads are one of the main ways people interact with laptops.

Anyone with a 5000 series able to resolve this and if so, how did you do it??
