Hey guys, I've just bought a Dell Inspiron 1300 with the intentions of upgrading (my first upgrade project).
Now to date I've upgraded the RAM from 1gb to 2gb and upgraded to WIN7 from XP.
The laptop is still horribly slow, I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU, at present it has Pentium Celeron M, I'm looking to upgrade to a Duel Core Pentium hoping to speed it up.

Now, I am a novice and I need your help, first off CAN I upgrade the CPU on this Dell and how do I do it, and would a duel core really speed it up or should I maybe go Quad Core.

I hope you guys can help me and guide me through this issue.

    Thanks

Ok so if I should have to stick to single core would Pentium M be fast enough or is there a faster one.
Should I downgrade back to XP,if I upgrade CPU could I keep Win7.

What is the current speed of your Celeron M? (for instance, 1.3GHz/1300MHz) Also, what would be your general usage of the computer? For instance, web browsing.

I still would not recommend Windows 7 on a computer with a Pentium M CPU.

This is all the info I can remember from memory, I'm not currently at my laptop, Dell 1.73 Centrino, 30gb HDD, 2gb DDR2, so Win7 isn't any good, well I can easily downgrade.

Windows 7 runs on Pentium M, I've ran it on the Northwood Pentium 4's, but it will not run smoothly. RAM is the most limiting factor IMO.

I second this. Plenty of modern netbooks out there running 7 just fine, and the average Atom is typically slower than the average P-M.
