Just purchased the new Dell Inspiron 13 @ Bestbuy for $699 and it's a better deal than the one on Dell.com
Really an awesome deal considering these specs:
Same hardware as the one reviewed on this site "except" for these upgraded specs:
- Intel T5750 2.0GHZ instead of the Dual Core 1.83GHZ in the review
- 3GB of memory
- 250GB HD
- 9 Cell battery
- Glossy Screen + 2.0mpix camera included ($25 dollar extra on dell)
If you spec this out on Dell.com, it comes out to $1093 with the exact options included.
Really unbelievable deal for the money at $699

I saw this online. Do you happen to know when this sale will end?
-
EDIT: The sale is 2 days only:...ends tomorrow night..normally the ads are Sunday2Sunday.

this is too great of a deal to pass up of! Calling the local best buy!
-
Wow those must be flying off the shelves.
-
Saw the add this morning also and went to the local Best Buy here in Davenport Iowa and noticed they did not have any on display. I asked a clerk about this, he went out back and came back with one and I asked him if he was going to open the box and place one on display.
No Way! he said since they only have 3 per store and that would mean he would have to sell one as a "discounted display" item. What an a hole. I had him call the other local Best buy and got the same answer. The local walmarts do not even carry them in stock or on display.
How the hell do they expect to sell these without people seeing the screens and testing the keyboards, heat, etc.... This is ridiculous here for the local retail. Have to just stick to the Dell site when the prices come down I guess. It really sucked. If I bought it and went home opened and then decided it's not really what I wanted then I get stuck with a 15% restocking fee, which does not seem fair if everything is in mint condition... Oh well..... another day that Dell does not get my money..... -
wow that's awesome.
It looks like a mini studio. -

The Best Buy (alabama) that I went to had one on display altough it didn't have a battery in it so you couldn't power it up. The Acer Aspireone was the same way but neither of them had the theft guard that they used on it so I guess they thought people woul steal the battery.
-
thats a good deal there
-
I'm thinking I may just want to check out the I-13 at my local Best Buy
Thing, is *blue*, is my favorite color...but I would rather see more color coverage in the I-13...before I would be tempted to even peruse the idea/or thought of a purchase Besides that it's the Mini I for me.
Cin -
I wonder why decided on blue as the introduction color.
-
I just got mine about two hours ago from the local Best Buy. They had one on display and only about two left. I bought it, those same specs the person who started the post mentioned. It's one hell of a deal, and honestly I could care less about the color. The size is perfect and it performs great! The only concern I had was when I took it out of the box, the battery was sticking out of the back, and saw it was the 9 cell battery. It looked like the display only had the 6 cell. It kind of sticks out... but hey... whats there to complain about for a 90$ more battery. This is a big recommend especially for those who are starting college.
-
Congrats on the purchase.
-
Does the 9 cell *elevate* the back of the I-13 abit? If so, that's good...it will give you a bit of elevation (which is nice), and some ventilation for underneath, and such
Now..once you get to know your I-13 and have *completely owned it* .....you should do a review of it and post with pics....I'm sure that everyone would like to see that

Dell took a lot of cues on the design from Apple's Macbook. For instance, the battery has a built in LED gauge. You press the button on the battery and gives you little dots to indicate charge status.
LED touch sensitive multimedia function keys is a very nice touch.
The front features a recessed laptop open/close lid lock similar look to the Macbook.
The DVD is slot loading, another Apple feature.
A Macbook with this spec will cost around $1199 minus the other little Apple features not found on this Dell.
Yes, the 9 cell battery does elevate the notebook slightly, giving it a little gap.
The only thing I would really want is back-lit keyboard, then it would be a perfect 13" lappy. -

When they checked the stock, they found out that the Geek Squad had one opened up. They brought it out. I took a look at it. I liked what I saw, and walked out with one.
So far, I'm pretty happy with the machine. For the price, it's a pretty loaded computer, and for my money, 13" is the sweetspot. I had a bunch of Reward Zone certificates, and some gift cards. For me, the cost out of pocket was only 557.00. Amazing for a computer this spec and size. -
-
You got yourself an awesome deal! Congrat's and enjoy!
And, try and post some pics, when you can!

Here are a couple of pics I shot earlier. Nothing spectacular. More than anything, they were just "proof of purchase" shots for some guys on another forum:

It's a very nice looking lappy!
Thanks for sharing

Yes, It is quite dark. I would rather black other than that shade of dark blue.

Can someone take a picture from the side, I would like to see how the 9-cell battery standout. Thanks
-
As it stands, I can't fit the computer in my laptop bag without removing the battery. -

I've also had several Macs, over the years, that feature the LEDs. -

I'd love to buy the real deal from Dell, but there's no way I'm dropping two hundred bucks on a battery for a laptop that cost me under six.
I'll update you guys when my battery arrives. -
hey can u please post a picture of it side on so u can see how much the battery sticks out. Also do u think that it is a good size to take to school? or do you think a netbook would be better. Also do u think that i should just get this? Cuz i dont im going to get a 360 soon and i dont really want to wait till november / december for the studio xps.
-
Personally, if I was going to be carrying the thing around, I want the smaller battery. I've owned a couple of netbooks and wouldn't want to use one as a primary machine. They're great on short bursts, though.
Anyway, here's your picture. As you can see, the battery is large and in charge. The real kicker is how much weight it adds.
-
Thanks for the picture. The shape of this battery is really weird.
-
Thankyou for the picture. I will probably get this laptop. Looks good and the price is pretty good 2. (+$1479) in Australia with 2 year warrenty. Although i could pay like $300 more and get a really good spec m1330 or m1530. I dont know wat to do :S.
-
Man. I feel bad for you. Are computer prices really that bloated in Australia?
-
yeah. These ones are $1300 without any added warranty etc etc. The XPS m1330 and m1530 easily reaches $2000 with average specs. Theres no coupons and for 2 year warranty it costs something like $250 and it costs $350+ for 3 years warranty. its really horrible. If you get anything good and 2 or 3 years warranty it costs around $2500.
-
And here it is with my new six cell. The difference in size and weight is pretty stunning. I could not have lived with only the nine cell. Now the thing actually fits in my laptop bag without having to remove the battery.

The one three posts up with the fat battery didn't provide proper perspective?

So far, the battery seems to work as it should. It is generic. I've always been wary of generic batteries, and this is the first time I've popped for one. As generics go, this one seems to be a fairly high quality battery. It fits perfect, seems to hold a between 3 and 4 hour charge, and it even has the LED indicators on the battery (which I did not expect).
Obviously, I can't speak for its long term quality. I've only been using it for a day. But, for the price (74.50 shipped), I'll take what I can get. There's no way I'm spending two hundred bucks on an OEM battery for a seven hundred dollar computer.
Overall, it's well worth the price.
Here's the link to a current auction for this battery, from the seller I purchased from:

mick4394,
What do you make of the textured plastic palm rest that seems to get dirty? How would you characterize the surface? (ie. is it the soft, rubbery kind like the outside of the Dell Studio 15?) -
Really, I don't think that dirty is a word I would use. It does get oily looking from your hands, but no more than any other dark colored computer.
Really, the plastics are about what you would expect from a computer in this price range. They are durable, and they look good enough, but they aren't going to win any fashion shows. -
