i have a dell inspiron 1000 laptop with a new 60 gb hdd and 256 ram. But there is a big problem i got the new hard drive because the other one was having problems and locking up the computer. I first sent it into dell to see if my extended warranty would work but after three attempts by dell to fix what they said was a malfunctioning mother board i gave up on it. But now i kinda wish i had a laptop again for when i travel and i was just wondering if anyone knew what the problem was or if they had experienced this, and if so what did you do to get it fixed. Oh by the way when i enter the setup upon boot it recognizes i have a hdd inside but it says 0.0 gb.

If you must replace your motherboard, get one for an Inspiron 1200/2200 or Latitude 110L. This will upgrade you from the crappy Netburst architecture to the Pentium M/Celeron M and GMA 900 graphics, which will double the battery life of your 43 watt/hour NiMH battery.
