Hello
I bought a Dell Inspiron almost 2 years ago. I hardly ever use it. I bought a slip case for it by Dicota, in which it just sits on my desk most of the time and ocasionally gets used when I travel (which is rare)
Anyway, I opted for the Sunburst Yellow option. This actually turned out to be more a lemon yellow colour but I didn't complain or send it back because I needed it.
So, after about 9 months, I noticed some black flecks on the yellow case. I assumed they were dust/dirt from somewhere. However, they would not rub away so I assumed that the rubbery texture of the case had absorbed the dirt and I was stuck with it. Not happy, but c'est la vie.
Then, month by month, I noticed more and more black appearing through the yellow rubber. Now, it is all over and is very ugly. I have contacted Dell who responded with the predictable, it's out of its years warrenty period - maybe but this is not a hardware failure, this is a manufacturing cosmetic defect that should never happen, like even after 10 years. They have offered to replace the cover for £130 (I don't think so) they came down to £90 (just to cover materials) again, no. Why should I pay? Then the customer service rep let slip that they thought it was my fault and it was wear and tear. Wear and tear? I reckon I have used it a dozen times since I bought it. And as I have said 1. It's been in a zipped up sleeve 2. It shouldn't happen even after 10 years, let alone 9 months.
Now they say no one else has come back to complain about this so it must be me. My guess is, people think it must be them, very few people chose the yellow, people generally don't complain, or they assumed as they were out of 1 year warrenty, why bother? Well, I am bothered!
So, have any of you with this model and colour noticed the same problem?
Thanks
Matt

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
I've got a Sunshine Yellow Inspiron 1420 in the family. The finish looks more or less the same as it did on day one. There's either something in your environment that's causing yours to destroy itself, or you got a defect. You could always try to buy a new lid on eBay and replace it yourself. Probably wouldn't be that hard or expensive. If it starts dying again, you might be able to say it's environmental damage...?

Maybe, but what kind of environment would do that? I live in a flat, in London. The thing has been in a case the whole time, it has to be a manufacturing fault.
How do you buy a new lid? Do I have to replace the whole screen or does the cover itself just pop off?
Thanks
