My dad needs a laptop primarily for writing and editing. I am thinking of getting him a refurbished Dell Inspiron 1525.

Can anyone who owns this laptop give me the pros and cons especially if you write a lot? And can you recommend any other laptop model in the Dell line?

Should I worry about reliability with a "refurbished" Dell laptop? He is in Asia now and I would like to know if Dell US warranty apply to repairs made in that part of the world?

    Thanks.

I doubt Dell would honor and American warranty all the way in Asia.

I woudl suggest looking at an Asus computer. I believe that all Asus laptops come with a 2 year GLOBAL warranty, meaning Asus will honor it wherever, whenever, regardless of country.
