has anyone had experience with dell's in home service?

i have a dead LCD a day after receiving my 1420. i chatted online and they said a technician will contact me on monday to set up an appointment to replace it.

does anyone know how long it will take? the rep didn't give me very specific details.

I used this service about 6 years ago. It was pretty quick (HD replacement). He took out the HD and put in a new HD and started installing the software for me. I said I could handle it. Took about ... 15 minutes. :)

They came to our home a few years ago to replace the cd drive on the desktop.
The technician came the date they gave us.
It was all pretty quick. I was impressed.

    I had a question....

I kno for the deopt service, you need to give dell ur credit card number just in case its not covered under the warranty.

For the in home service... does dell ask for your credit card or does the techican determine if its covered or not?

I hate the idea of havin to give dell my credit card number and somehow they say a problem was my fault and charge me...

the technician has not called me back yet since it hasn't been a business day, but so far they have not requested a card number. everything should be covered under warranty i believe.

I don't think they can charge you for anything without your knowledge and consent. That may or may not be illegal.

I had Dell in-home on my last laptop. The LCD also went out on it. Dell claimed it was now a user-replaceable part and shipped me the part to do myself in my home.

I'm still waiting for the class-action lawsuits to settle on the overheating issue.

Needless to say, my new laptop is not a Dell.
