does anyone know how to make this crappy thing work? i've been staring at it for a while trying to figure out the drivers for it. i was thinking of taking my PSP and installing IRShell onto it so that i can use it like a remote.

    any ideas?

Have you tried enabling the port in the BIOS first? I know that in many cases, Dell has set the IR port to "off" in the BIOS. Second regarding the use of a remote, I believe that the IR port needs to be cIR (commercial/consumer IR), and I dont think Dell laptops have cIR ports.
