My key board started malfunctioning about 3 weeks ago. I phoned Dell Support and they said that they would not talk to me because I voided my warrenty by installing Windows 7. Is that true? How call Dell get away with voiding a hardware warrenty when you install different software? There must be millions of customers who no longer are under warrenty and they do not know it.

I wouldn't have thought they can void a hardware warranty issue based on the user installing a different os providing you can prove it is a hardware and not software issue.

This is complete BS. Demand to speak to supervisor and if that does not work, file complaint with BBB (or equivalent if not in US).

If your computer is functional enough to chat, or you have access to one that works normally, try using the "Chat with Technical Support" option instead of trying to speak with the idiots! Here's a LINK

I've always had much better luck going that route...and you have documentation of everything said, too! :D

Just curious, did you buy your laptop with the "Free Windows 7 Upgrade" when they were selling those prior to the release of Win7? Regardless, they're INSANE!

Let us know how it goes...I've had to get a little rough with Dell before and got the results I wanted, so I can offer you some suggestions if they don't fix this very soon! But try tech support chat first....

I'd talk to another rep or supervisor. I just had a Dell warranty call not too many weeks ago and I told the rep. I installed Windows 7 and he asked nothing about it.
