I was wondering if anyone knew about the capabilities of the Dell graphic cards for its line of laptops/notebooks.

Really, I need to run only one game, Microsoft Flight Simulator X - Deluxe Edition.
I will be studying aviation in college, so this is almost a have to have thing, but I don't know what any of the Dell graphic cards can handle these requirements. So, is this game too much for a Vostro or Inspiron laptop? Or, if I want to run this game, is the XPS the only option?

Also, my university uses a 802.11b wireless network, are any of the Dell wireless network cards able to run on this network? All I saw was a, g, and n. I don't know much about wireless networks, but I am guessing that one of these is capable of hooking up to a 802.11b network, but which one?

Thank for helping this laptop newbie!

the stock wireless card will work with b/g.

also, the stock graphics card for the vostro 1500 will run that game.

It would play that even with Dell's integrated X3100.

It would obviously run better if you get the 8400MGS or the 8600GT.

The wireless card from any of Dell's options will work with your network.

If the game doesn't work well, I suggest upgrading your ram.

The 15" & 17" Inspirons & Vostros can be configured with a 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, which is more than powerful enough to run FS X. For CPU, you should get a T7x00 series.

As for Wi-Fi, 802.11g is backwards compatible to 802.11b, so any G device will work on either B or G networks.

You're going to want the 8600m-gt. Check out this review (page 2) for framerates:
