I'm currently running the system above with this spec

    Spec - i7 10750h RTX 2070MQ (80w) 16GB RAM

I remember when I first bought the laptop I didn't have a clue about them so whilst gaming I would always enable the Gameshift mode (max power, max fans) and was alarmed that temperatures would hit 100 degrees. For a while I would just disable turbo boost not really having a clue what I was doing but was happy that I wasn't losing frames (obviously gpu bound games then) and it was a good solution.

Bios updates came and I switched to the balanced mode and started gaming a lot more rather than using the machine for its original intended purpose (photo and video editing - cheers Rona for ****ing that up!)

A game like Cyberpunk would run the cpu at around 3.6ghz at about 36w. Cpu temps were about 85 degrees and GPU about 73 degrees. Enabling gameshift got me to 4.2ghz and 100 degrees with no increase in frames so I left it at that as it would just throttle back down to 3.6ghz and 36w anyway

Recently I investigated how high the cpu wattage was initially in gameshift and it was well in the 50's. Clearly the i7-10750H and 45tdp wasn't designed to run higher than that in this laptop! Why then Dell gives the option I don't know! Resident evil 7 as another test has the cpu running nicely at 4.2ghz at wattage in the 20's which confused the hell out of me as I was also enabling gameshift just to see what would happen.

I'm just trying to see if my machine is running well basically. Have Dell tuned their performance thermal profile around 90% fans) so well that it knows what sort of power to give to the games as normal tdp is pl2 107 and PL1 85 I believe. Temps aren't mad so it's not throttling down thermally.

Cyberpunk is incredibly harsh on both cpu and gpu so it's going to drive Temps quite a bit.

Most people try to undervolt and begin researching throttlestop and/or look into liquid metal paste to remove any inefficiencies as possible to allow the systemtto perform the way you want it to

For me undervolting requires a bios mod which I'm not sure I really fancy doing. It doesn't seem to matter at the minute whether my processor is at 3.6ghz or 4.2 when it comes to fps which I always thought was strange as I had watched a few YouTube videos where clockspeed was proportional to frame rate.

Generally speaking that is false, it absolutely depends on what your doing and games do not have a general rule like that. It depends on the fame

Just repasted and getting 10 degrees lower temps. Engineer that replaced the track pad must have used the cheapest paste going and worst application ever. More was out than on the cpu and GPU!

Thats a good start, now look into undervolting and you may get another 10

I don't think I am brave enough to do a bios mod to do it. Wish Dell would just enable it but doubt they ever will.

Still it's pretty cool to see sustained 4.3ghz in games like Cyberpunk even though I think I still prefer to run it at 3.6ghz and still get decent performance and nice temps.

There is no need for BIOS mod, that would be the last thing I would ever recommend to someone who's skill level I cant ascertain
