I was having problems with my fingerprint reader, it would not work (said it wasn't connected). I decided to uninstall, then reinstall.
After this, I restarted. Now when I hit enter after typing my password it says "The Request is Not Supported". It's Vista Ultimate, on a D630. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and any suggestions on how to make it better.
I want to avoid reinstalling. I spent ages getting this thing the way I like it, and if I reinstall, I'm going back to XP, as I cannot deal with Vista and all these errors anymore..

Very rare. Unfortunately I recommend reinstalling windows as you should not be getting this error.

I was able to boot into safe mode, turn on Windows Installer, and get Windows to allow me to login again. Still my fingerprint reader does not work. If we can't fix it this evening, then I may be calling Dell, as I don't want to deal with reinstalling Vista. I didn't even change anything for the reader to stop working, so possibly a faulty reader, I don't know.
All in all, I should have returned the laptop when I got it with a faulty battery. I'm regretting purchasing it, and if it wasn't a month later, I'd send it back. I don't like it, and would rather go back to the horrible Inspiron 6000 I originally had.. -
Alright, so we got it to uninstall, but when we reinstalled, it is missing files.
Turns out the reinstall CD AND Dell's website both have the install file that is missing stuff. So no matter what I do, it won't again. I'm debating if I call Dell and have them come look at it, but if I can't even reinstall, then how will they? It seems it needs to take a trip back to Malaysia and get reimaged. -
You don't HAVE to use the fingerprint reader right?
The studio 15 that I ordered has it standard and right now my plan is to just ignore it. -
It's a Latitude, D630.
Dell's install files do not work, the CD nor the website, very annoying. I did however try the UPEK software, as I wanted to see if it was a Dell issue, or the readers issues. UPEK works fine, but Embassy won't install. Go figure, something on Dell's behalf.
I'd like to get the Dell software to install though, as this is what came with my laptop. -
As my M1330's fingerprint is made by UPEK, personally I prefer the UPEK one as Dell's software support sucks IMO.
I'm using UPEK's 5.8.2 and it works like a charm! -
Yea I noticed it sucked, a lot.
Mine is also by UPEK. I've got the 5.6.0 software, just not happy with the disaster I had to deal with, and how it is technically unfixable if I ever wanted to use the Embassy Trust Suite. -
Yeah I can't get the UPEK stuff to work on my D830. That stuff was broken by SP1, and Dell hasn't fixed it.
-
I was going to have someone come out and look at it (as I have on site service), but if I can't fix it, and I actually know what I'm doing, how is someone else going to have any better luck? It's the install files that are messed up, so there is nothing I can do. Embassy Trust Suite wasn't that nice anyway... -
After doing a fresh Vista install on my Studio 15 I had the same kinf of issues. First install the FP reader software from the supplied CD that came with your laptop. Once that is done download the FP driver from the Dell support site. It should work perfectly after that.
-
The FP reader drivers are not the latest drivers. If you want to start fresh, just run Windows Update manually and it will pick up the latest Fingerprint Drivers.
