I'm not sure if anyone will know the answer to this one but I'll give it a try. Last week I was on a business trip and I asked my wife to pay my Dell Credit card bill. I came back on Friday and while sitting watching TV at 8PM ET I happened to ask her which day she made the payment. Well of course she forgot to do it so I jumped to the phone, it happens the payment was due on Friday March 28th so luckily Dell FS was still open. I asked the agent if it was possible to make an immediate payment and was told that it could be done online for a $9 fee or on the phone for $13. She asked me to hold on and came back and said as a one time courtesy she got permission to wave the $13 fee which was great so I made the payment over the phone. I specifically asked if this is considered an immediate payment and was told yes.
This morning I get a confirmation email titled "Future Dated Payment Processed" saying the payment was processed yesterday March 29th. So the question is, is this payment considered posted the day I made it. Friday March 28th or the day it processed, Sat March 29th? Dell FS is closed today so I thought if anyone here has any experience I'd ask.

i wouldn't sweat it. if you're usually on time, and this payment is possibly a day late, it won't be penalized with the creditor nor the credit report.

you should be fine. Make sure you check your bill next time it comes to make sure they didn't charge you a late fee. If they did then just call to them and explain that you paid it the day it was due.

Yeah man, you are fine. Late isnt late unless its past 15 or 30 day mark. And even then, late isnt late until it is sent to collections. I was a day late (my fault) and spoke with the Dell Rep and he notifed me that. Checked my CR about a month later and no lates was on there! So far so good..

And yes, I think it's funny to pay $9 to pay on the automated systems and $13 for a live sales rep. I paid the extra $9.

Nothing goes on the credit report until at least 30 days late.

The problem here could be with dell though, if you have 0% interest on it they could easily jack the rate to 20%+ if they wanted to and charge you a late fee. I wouldn't sweat it though if the cust rep said everything would be fine with the express payment.

They can't report you as late until you are 31 days late, but they can keep track of it internally and charge you a fee. You should make sure they don't take away your promotional interest rate if you have a deal like that.
