You and I have the same exact specs on our computers, so you will be my tracking buddy.

Can you tell me exactly what your shipping status is atm?

I called to complain about my order a week ago (and I didn't have anything to complain about based on lead times others have endured) and was also told they would give me an upgrade next business day shipping for free. Short version: Dell didn't ship it next business day. It still took four days to arrive at my house.

Now, I placed my order on 7/23 and my 1520 arrived on 7/31. That's not too shabby even with the ground shipping. As for issues others have reported with their laptops, I don't see the graininess reported with the screen (I might just be blind) and the only noise I get from headphones is a little background hiss that can't be noticed with the gigantic cans I use to play games with (I only notice the hiss with the supplied headphones.)

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the new laptop. I'm VERY happy with mine!

Your order date to estimated ship is shorter than the amount of time mine was in build even after complaining to Dell. >_>

In a perfect world, we should all get our computers shipped out to us. But since demand is high and Dell's company is so disorganized on many levels, we all have to wait.

What? Some of you people on here act more like spoiled princesses. 7/24 to 8/9 is not too horrible, and the estimated date is clearly laid out on the site when you order. So basically you called up because you have no dignity, and you just wanted to cry into the phone and see if Dell gave you free stuff?

    ocellaris,
We'll see if you are still so pious after they delay your vostro for a couple of weeks. Then you will be faced with someone just like you telling you to stop acting like a princess.

I ordered my Vostro on July 13th around 1AM, I do not have it yet. The estimated ship date when I ordered was August 2nd (today). I will check later in the day and see if it shipped. No crying from me yet.

Get back to me on 8/28 when you are still facing a delay. You would be a dummy if you don't cancel.

There are alot of people who are complaining that they didn't get their laptop within a few weeks, then there are other people, like me, who ordered 7/11 and has a shipping date of 8/28.

IMO that is something that sucks, and yes, I have complained about it, but the fact is, talking with dell, getting your order expedited, etc won't actually do any good. My CSR told me so many orders have been expedited that it doesn't make any difference (and I believe that). Just sit back and wait, they will show up. If you don't like the wait times and "must have" yours soon, go buy one at a store.

I dont' really have that option because the specs I want I can't buy. So wait I must.

The worst part is I need the laptop for school and I start on the 20th. I'm just going to deal with it, hope it arrives sooner. I don't have much choice.

Maybe I can convince everyone here to cancel and mine will ship sooner

I also have my doubts about Dell's claim to expedite. I ordered my 1720 on July 16th with a ship date of August 1st. Yesterday they advised me that my new ship date is now August 28th. After complaining and questioning how it takes 44 days to complete an order, they told me they would expedite my order but couldn't give me a firm date. After many years of Dell purchases, I think it may be time to cancel this order and buy something else.

I'm with you! I too am considering cancelling but not sure what is out in the market with the same specs or comparable to what I want. I cannot go buy one at a store due to the specs I want, I really need something that I can customize. I am considering the HP Pavillion DV9500T

I beleive the dv9500t would be my choice if, or when, I cancel my Dell 1720 order. I'm just trying to get some input from people to compare the two. I'd hate to jump from the frying pan into the fire because of the extended shipping delays.

Well, I think the people with the 17x0s delayed until 8/28 have something valid to complain about. Their PCs will arrive well after the original estimated date. I think it is poor character to cry about something before the original ship date comes and goes however.

I agree with you - they tell you the estimated ship date BEFORE you even place your order, if you don't like it, don't buy it; it's as simple as that. That's why they give you the estimated ship date, they're not just putting a date out there for their health. Deal with it....
Now there is something to complain about if your date has been delayed and it's been a long time, but by long I mean LONG, like like all you little babies who are sad because it's only been a week and a half and your precious computers haven't arrived yet; go outside and enjoy the day.

Well...I guess I fall into the "right to cry category". At first it was not big deal but....after the third delay for 8/2 ship date you start to wonder....and NOW....they are not just delaying week to week, but by three week intervals!
I wish they would have just given me the 8/28 deadline when I originally placed my order on July 8, at that point I could have made the decision to wait or go elsewere....but to string you along from week to week...that is just terrible in MOH.

For those here who are saying that they tell you the estimated shipping date before you order, you are right in a sense. However, I ordered my 1520 on 7/28 over the phone and the Dell Service guy lied to me by saying it would ship 8/5 (which is why I bought it that night - he said that if I waited a week it would ship 8/28). I feel that some people have a right to complain. I got "conned", for lack of a better word, out of my $300 coupon.

After calling Dell again, I got a different guy who told me it would ship 8/23.

Dell is all hosed up atm.

I ordered vis the Dell UK site and went all the way through until the last page of the confirmation stated "Dell will now build your laptop - please allow 7 - 10 working days for delivery". Then an hour later I get the confirmation email stating delivery on or before 23/08. Not once did it inform me of any possible delays and on the final order page told me 7-10 days. So you do not always get told of the delivery date at the time of ordering.

Currently they are advising peeps on the order pages that there is a 28 day wait. They were not when I ordered.

Next day shipping is a waste of your time cause it doesn't help you get your laptop any faster .

It won't help your laptop get out of production by having next day. Once it is with the carrier, it helps to have next day.
