Just received a Dell e1505 with Vista and X1400 (256 MB). It shows shared system memory as 255, dedicated memory 128 and total graphics memory
    as 383. Any idea why?

    Yes the drivers are old

Its Vista, the X1400 has 128 onboard, and under XP 128 shared,Vista adds a little more to the shared mem.
