Hi, so I am going to use my EPP to buy a secondary Studio 17, 24" monitor and an Inspiron Mini 9. Out of curiosity, because I really do not know, is there a difference in build quality, materials, workmanship, etc... for people that have an EPP with Dell and order systems and other devices by Dell? Do "Home" systems differ from EPP systems? Like do EPP systems use used parts or remanufactured parts for a new system? Just curious....
Also, I need help deciding on the Inspiron Mini 9. I have never seen one in person but the device seems to have a lot of positive reviews going for it. I wanted to know what would be a better OS for the device; Windows XP or Linux? I see you can get 2GB RAM on the Linux and more storage space than an XP system. I want to be able to print wirelessly from the device to my networked printer and the printer is an HP Photosmart C7280. Can this Dell Linux do that?
Basically, what is the better choice OS? Are there 1 or 2 speakers and do they sound good or okay? How is the Linux User Interface?

Your getting the same as the home site, just nice discounts
I got XP on my I9...it's a great netbook I think you will enjoy it.
I didn't go with Linux, as I got greater saving on the XP thru EPP. Plus, if I want I can always load on Linux later down the road.
You should be able to do that w/the HP...just make sure you config your order accordingly.
I'm going to let others advise you on Linux.
Hope that helps!
OH...right now there are some fantastic deals on the Mini 9's at the Dell Outlet..you may want to consider that. You can get one as low as $269 out the door! What I do is price them thru EPP, Dell's main site, and the Outlet..to see the price differential and savings!

Thanks Cin', gave you a rep point . I read a lot of your comments and find them useful! My situation is I work at Target and we get a 7% EPP discount.
Any other savings, coupons, advice welcomed! -
If it's on the EPP site...you should be shown what it would be on sale or reg. price and if your 7% isnt there, it will show up in your cart.
Can you provide me the model of the monitor, and I will check it on my EPP

Nevermind Cin', it did show up for the monitor, didn't go to final checkout, that was the problem. It knocked about $24 off the S2409W 24" Widescreen Monitor. Plus I got 2 Dell giftcards in the mail yesterday for doing their trade-in program totaling $294. So, I essentially get the monitor for "free". Yipee!
What options did you go for on the Mini 9 Cin'? Do the speakers sound good providing there are 2 speakers and not 1? The viewing angles, are the pretty good without too much fading? I tried the Acer Aspire One and it had HORRIBLE viewing angles, I don't care what other people say. I tried 3 of the same model. I hope the Mini 9 is better. -
Let me grab my specs for you! I like the speakers for a netbook, not so bad. The viewing angles are good..You just have to get used to the size.
Here they are:
Oh, also remember you can get an addtl 4% if you pay with the Dell DPA.

linux mini9 should be able to work well with your printer flawlessly. As an owner myself, I find that having linux on my mini9 really reduces the cost of windowsXP license, which you dont even use all the feature though you are paying!!! Also, if you think about it, what can a little machine like the mini9 do? not much, right? we don't expect to play games on it anyway. Anyways, the linux version really packs all the feature you'll ever need such as: open Office (like microsoft office but better and free!), web-browser(firefox),messenger (AIM, yim, skype,...), etc.... If you use windows version, you might also install anti-virus software, which definitely slowwwwwww the system down. However, on linux? you dont have to worry about such problems. FYI, linux is the most secured operating system, better than windows, better than mac, and even the DOJ uses it LOL....good luck

Okay, I got the 4% additional discount earlier today when I was playing with configurations and now I don't see the option, was it removed or am I not looking in the right place?
EDIT: Oops, nevermind, found it!
