I first had a problem with my videocard showing artifacts on my screen and then getting BSOD'd. I tried using other drivers but they all led to the same conclusion sooner or later.
The only way to operate was to boot into Safe Mode and disable the videocard in Device Manager, then restart and run Windows.

So I called Dell and explained the problem and they quickly came and replaced the videocard with another refurbished one.

Later the same day, the "new" videocard showed the same problem, so I tried other drivers again, which worked for a few days, but then BSOD'd again, which led to me disabling the vidcard again.

And then after shutting down by pressing the ON-button for 5 secs once, I rebooted and the fans started spinning very hard and it shut itself off before passing the DELL bootup screen.
I rebooted again and it said something about overheating or something obstructing the fans and gave me a "M1004" error code and shut itself off again and wouldn't restart until after a few tries.

The thing is it wasn't overheating at all (since it's overheated before, that's what caused the 1st videocard problem). The same thing happened a few times when I tried to boot it up, and now it won't boot at all.
When I press the on-button the power and hdd LED's burn but it shuts itself off again. What is causing the problem?

    Time to call Dell again.
Whatever the problem is, graphics card, loose heat sink, or whatever, it doesn't sound like something that can be fixed without the proper parts.

After they replaced the motherboard, and it still didn't work, they decided to replace it.
Yesterday I received my new Inspiron 1720 from Dell, specs (old specs in sig):

    Inspiron 1720
Jet Black lid with 2MP camera
    Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0 GHz
    17" UltraSharp WUXGA (1920x1200)
    2048 MB 667 MHz DDR2
    nVidia Geforce 8600M GT
    160 GB SATA (5400 RPM)
    9CELL 85WHr Battery

I'm quite satisfied with it, though the lack of DVI for the new videocard annoys me a bit since the old 7900GS Go had one and seeing I was planning on purchasing a 24" monitor to use with my laptop (and Xbox 360).
It feels a bit like I went one step ahead and one step back.

Anyway good kudos to Dell on their service
