I just found a dead pixel on my screen and it is barely noticable but it is kind of annoying to see that stupid stuck pixel on my screen(although it is a 1920
x1200 screen. I have two questions:

1)Have any of you had a dead pixel on your e1705
2)What is dell's dead pixel replacement policy?

    1.) nope..I had a stuck pixel on my t60 but it's gone now :)
2.) If you just have a single dead pixel you are out of luck. It's possible that you might be able to wrangle a return, but you never know what you're gonna get next.

Also, do you have a dead or pixel?
If it's stuck pixel there is some hope.

I'm pretty sure they will replace it if you send it in

maybe not ^^...but it's worth a try if you don't like it. I would tell them about whatever light leakage you can see as well and just try and make it sound like a lemon screen

If you just bought it, you could try returning it and then order a new one.

Is it a dead pixel or a stuck pixel? If its just stuck, red/green blue etc, it is sometimes possible to repair yourself, google " stuck pixel repair", if its truely a dead pixel, then theres nothing to be done short of a replacement.

Well what I meant to say is that they won't count a single dead pixel as a returnable defect...you could certainly try to trump up the charges. Whether or not that is ethical is up to you.

I believe the Dell return policy is that it has to have 7+ dead or stuck pixels to warrant a replacement. But that all depends on how good of a customer rep you get. Some will state they cannot do it, others will.

If you want to take the chance of calling to see you might get lucky.

    Hope this helps.

If your still within the 21 day total satisfaction window, they'll take it back, you may be subject to a restocking fee though.

Yea I think restocking fee and you probably have to pay money to ship it back to dell. Returning it might be a little harder than it seems. I suggest you stay with the pixel cuz when I sent in my computer to get a monitor repair, I got it back with scratches everywhere, the screen was loose, and it was dirty as hell! I don't know what the Dell people are doing over there.

In this case, It is a stuck pixel as it hasn't gone entirely black yet. It seems to be some sort of colour depending on the angle you're looking at. Doesn't seem to be a stain since I can't remove it with my trusty cloth.

Anyway, I had this laptop for about 10 months(2 months with the old replaced laptop which I was getting shocked with.literally.) So, 21 day guarantee is out of the window.

I'm seeing that the suggestions they have on the wikipedia site sound harmful instead of helpful. Applying pressure on that pixel which barely measures a milimeter and pray the the pixels next to it wont get stuck seems like a far-fetched idea. If anyone swears by it, I would be willing to apply some light pressure but otherwise, sounds really harmful. Along with the other one about rapidly change the screen colour from r->g->b. I'll try that rgb one first, sounds less harmful than the pressure method.

Well when I had my monitor replaced on my I9300 Banctec or whatever came out and did it at my house. I have the on-site warranty, so if you have that you could call it in to Dell and see if someone can come there and do it.

Just curious, why did you get your screen replaced? If it was dead pixels, how many did you have.

Just used dead pixel buddy and noticed i have 1 dead pixel and 1 stuck .

I had an enormous amount of light leakage from the bottom of my screen. I have the XGA+ 1440x900 and they were there about 2 days later to replace it. They never even had me power up my comp before they did the work. They just came it and laptop was ready and just changed the screen :p Took all of about 25-30 mins.

Yeah, sounds like the other two times dell came to my place to fix the laptop. quick and no questions asked for the most part.

Actually, I am more worried about changing my screen as I believe I got a pretty good screen with very little light leakage at the bottom unlike most of the horror stories I've been hearing. I don't know, would you guys change your screen because of 1 dead pixel and 1 stuck pixel. I'm very sure dell wouldn't mind changing it though ;)

It depends on where it is...I have one that is far up in the up right-hand corner. I don't see it except on black screens. As for if you should raise a stink...that is up to you. :p

Once again, I'm not trying to come off as a bad guy, but you should call Dell Tech support and tell them you have severe light leakage and it affects your work. They will send a on site technician. It should be covered in your base warranty.

Man, all of the advice i post on these forums make me sound like a really bad person and it goes against my creed.

The Technicians are paid per job and not per hour, so they like to be in and out of the house right away. I've never had any of them check for the problems themselves because it's not their money they are losing so they just get in, replace it, and get out as fast as they can.

I've never done the pressure mehtod, though I've heard many success stories, I have had success with programs that cycle through various colors and patterns very quickly, it takes time, I'd let it go 8 to 12 hours minimum, sometimes they just go away on their own as Vespoli posted earlier.
