I just got cleared from my boss to get a harddrive upgrade for my laptop. Money is obviously not a concern ;)

i currently have a 5400rpm 80gb HDD for private use, and would like to add a second harddrive for work use. The perfect scenario would be to have dual boot with two harddrives, one has all my private stuff, one boots into my work OS.

Does the E1705 support two harddrives? I'm not sure there's a 2nd HDD bay. What about if I remove the ExpressCard bay - would a 2nd HDD fit in?

Other option would be to get an USB2.0 external HDD and boot off of that one for work purposes. How is boot performance and overall work performance over an USB2.0 5400rpm harddrive? I would get one of those that are powered through the USB port.

    Any advice welcome!
    Thanks,
    Umpa

EDIT: Another option would be to split my existing harddrive 50/50, clean install of Windows on both partitions set up for dual boot. Use one partition for Work related stuff, one partition for Private stuff - get an external, portable HDD for data storage, again split 50/50 between work and private usage.

I dont think the E1705 has an option for a second hard drive. Booting up off an external hard drive should be nearly as fast as the notebook hard drive. The difference will be barely perceptible.

I agree with zx10guy, but if you cannot get a new one, you would have to get an external, the E1705 doesnt have a second hard drive slot, so external

Seriously dude. I absolutely concur. What happens when your boss remotely accesses your laptop and accidentally finds your super secret stash of donkey midget hamster butt porn?!

I'd get the company to get one for you. Bad things happen when you mix the two worlds together.

I absoulutly agree with all of these statements. To many issues come into play. Work is work, play is play.

I dont know exactly how it would be on the e1705, but on my m1210, I can switch out the hard drive in less than 2 minutes, its 4 screws, if you switch it alot, you would be just fine using only two, pop out the screws, and the drive slides right out, slip it out of the housing, slip the other drive in, and pop her in the bay, screw in the screws, and enjoy your donkey smut

    Good point!

You are going to get tired of switching hard drives. Laptops are cheap these days and money is not an issue so get a new laptop for work.
