just a thought but, if i connect a external 20 inch dell widescreen monitor to my E1705, and i wanted to play a game on the 20 inch instead of the laptop's 17 inch screen, would the laptop let me do that?

is there any way to completely turn off the laptop's own native 17 inch screen and use the 20 inch monitor. so i guess the laptop would be on, but its screen would be off, and instead the 20 inch would have everything as if on the laptop screen.

    thanks guys.

Yes, you can use the external as the primary monitor. You just tell the monitor driver which one you want as the primary. What video card do you have?

    Hello,

My name is Rick, I’m a Dell Technical Analyst located at Dell corporate headquarters in Round Rock, TX. I’m part of an internet outreach team developed to interact with the online community. The easiest way to switch video output on a Dell notebook is to hold the "FN" key and press "F8", this will toggle between the built in LCD and the monitor you have hooked up to your system.

If for some reason that doesn't work please let me know and I will do everything I can to help.

just email me if you have any issues at [email protected] (and put Attn Rick in the subject line)

    Thanks,
    Rick
