I have a three year old E1705 and after several minutes using it the screen flickers a tad bit then goes black. I can shut if off but it will not go back to normal until it wants to. Sometimes this is a half hour or sometimes several hours almost as if it is to hot but the CPU temp is normaly 45 C to 50 C.

Has anyone else experienced any similiar issues and if so any has any one fixed the issue.

    Thanks,

You might need to replace the LCD inverter or backlight; something in that region.

Thanks, is that a DIY repair for a fairly technically competent guy. If so any good places to get them.

    Thanks,

Yeah shouldn't be that hard - the user manual is here if you want to have a look through it: http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9400/en/sm/index.htm

Both items are relatively cheap, you can pick them up on eBay for between £10 - £20 GBP each.

Before you do that though, I'd always recommend trying the boot diagnostics to see if it throws up any other issues. Power off the machine and then press the Fn button at the same time as the power button - should launch into the boot diagnostics.
