Hey so I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have recently been having problems with the display on my laptop and have tried calling dell support, but they didn't help any. Problem is my computer has started making a high pitch screeching noise when the display is on and the power cord not plugged in. Then when I go to plug in my power cord the display shuts off and the noise stops as well. Only way to get the display to turn back on is to unplug power cord, close the lid for a second, then reopen which turns the display on as well as the noise returns. Also the screen flickers while it is on, not just spots but the entire screen. Any help would be great, I have no idea what to do to fix this...

    Thanks,
    Christian

Does this happen if you boot up and enter the BIOS (or boot into DOS via external floppy or bootable USB), or does it just happen when you are in Windows?

It happens both when I enter BIOS and when I start into windows. Also when on battery power the brighter the screen is the louder the noise is. Thank you for your help.

Dying inverter board? That's the only thing that should make noise, but you didn't specify where the noise is coming from.

I cant pinpoint where the noise is coming from, maybe underneath? just a high pitch scratching noise...
