Well, I've had multiple issues before and replaced my video card twice. Now recently I have been getting HD issues.
I was told by a tech that came to my house last time that I should most likely get my mobo replaced as well if I get it repaired again.
I get artifacts and have had this issue before, reformatted and nothing changes. Still get artifacts on all start up screens. BSOD with HD issues and DVD/CD drive vibrates like crazy so I request a change in that as well.
My screen goes black when I update my drivers now and I can't start it in normal mode without having all drivers disabled.
Anyway, they said in the chat they will be looking over all the issues at the depot now. Keep in mind I have had a tech come out here twice since I bought it in 2006 and have dealt with sub par performance this whole time. To top it off my battery crapped out a long time ago so I can't flash bios with an update either.
So basically I requested that my mobo, vid card, cd drive and HD be replaced and have them take a look at my screen system as well.
My full care accidental coverage warranty expires next year and if this craps out at this point I'm going to find the highest level person I have and request a complete new system with equal or better parts.
For reference I am on my laptop right now, reformatted and now the SIGMATEL AC 9750 drivers won't install! The resolution is much lower because of no video card drivers as well.
My stats:
Dell 1705
XP media center
intel wireless w/ bluetooth
1.83 duo core
2 gb memory (512 mb stock, i replaced it, should I take the 2 gigs out and put the 512 back in?)
7900 go gs
60gb 7200 rpm
Phillps dvd/cd rw drive
WUXGA 1900x1200 glossy screen.
Questions:
Can I ask for a replacement battery?
Should I take my memory out and put in the stock kind?
Can I request a new ac adapter?
Since I can't install the video card drivers, should I request that they do so?
Thank you!

Do any of the problems go away with the old ram? I would probably switch it back before sending it to the depot. I don't think it is necessary but I would do it.
Are you having trouble with the adapter? I just got a replacement for my 1720. Was tired of getting the adapter not recognized error on startup. Haven't seen the error again, yet
Most of your problems sound like a bad video card to me. Keep at them and make sure they fix all of the problems.
I thought they were out of the 7900 gs? Talked to someone the other day that had their system replaced with a new laptop since the video card went bad and Dell was unable to replace it. Hopefully you will end up with the same situation.
Good luck! -
Good luck! My E1705 had the 7900GS and starting having overheating problems. Dell refused to fix it or even acknowlege there was a problem (this was two months before the nvidia fiasco came to light).
Hope you get yours fixed once and for all! -
As for the battery, I will complain and see what they do.
I'll put the old ram in shortly before I send it in.
No problem with the adapter either.
I will tell them about my sound issues now.
I have my warranty for 330 more days and I intend to use it to the fullest.
