Officially, the E1505/E1705 only supports up to 2GB of memory. Nonetheless, many people have gotten the machines to work with 3GB of memory, and some people may or may not have gotten them to work with 4GB. You can use 800MHz memory, but it won't run faster than 667MHz.

You can definitely install 2 x 2GB DIMMS for 4 GB total, but only 3.25 (or so) will be available to you as the chipset maps the memory range from 3.25 - 4.0 GB for system use.

The benefit to using 2 x 2Gb DIMMS is you maintain dual Channel operation (if even a small gain)

The E1705 was my first laptop. It definitely supports 4GB RAM, but as others have said, it will only run at 667MHz. You would be better to get DDR2-667 RAM that has a lower CAS latency than DDR2-800, and squeak out that tiny (unnoticable) bit of extra performance. :)

    Thanks so much.

Can i get 1 2GB DDR2 Ram 667 Mhz and use the existing 1 GB RAM which is 667 Mhz which would make up to 3 GB RAM. Will it support dual channel.

Yes, it should work, and yes, it should still run in dual-channel mode.

But it will only run in parallel dual channel mode, 1GB + 1GB, so the remaining gig on the 2GB stick will not run in dual channel mode.
