I removed dell media direct because it always opened when I put a movie in, and I never used it. I use window media player 11 for music and movies. After I uninstalled it, I could not play any movies because I did have a dvd encoder. The options presented to me were to purchase one for media player 10. Any thoughts on what I can do?

The Klite Mega Codec pack will definitely work.

During the install select "playback only" and create yourself a shortcut for Windows Media Player Classic.

I'm not sure what free codecs can bolt into WMP11, I'm pretty sure they restrict you to paid decoders (PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc).

You can use Tweak to disable autoplay which will stop discs from playing when inserted. If you are looking for DVD playback software, VideoLan is free and works quite well. I use it myself though I do not watch a lot of DVDs on my laptop.

Call dell and get them to send you power dvd or sonic, they should do this free of charge.

CCCP + WMP Classic is good. WMP11 takes up unnecessary resource imo.
    never trusted Klite much.

edit: wmpc with coreavc makes for a very good h264 decoder

I used CCCP + Quicktime Alt Lite + Real Player Alt Lite + WMC

I also got Winamp Alternative but I unchecked the first option and the last three (well invert that when you see the screen). You just won't be able to listen the AAC+ streams but every other one will work on shoutcast.
