Alright, so when the inpiron E1505 was new, I bought one. Had it for a few years now, and it still works wonderfully. Then I began expanding its potential a bit, added an external monitor, went with a usb keyboard and mouse. Then I ran into a problem. On all of the usb keyboards I've tried with my E1505, none of the function keys work. I tried the same thing with another E1505 that I recently acquired, and this second computer fails to recognize the function keys on the external keyboards. On both laptops, however the function keys on the built in keyboards work fine.

Also, to clarify I'm talking about the F1-F12 keys on the standard keyboards, not any sort of special programmable keys. The os I'm running is WinXP Home SP3 on both machines. If anyone has any idea on how to remedy this, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance
    ~Kel~

Which keyboards are you trying? Did you install the drivers for the keyboards?

    really?
I have a Dell keyboard model SK-8125 plugged into my E1505 right now, and all of the function keys are working fine.

What kind of keyboards are you using?
Their may be a driver conflict.
I have only one external keyboard and its a dell, and it has never given me any problems.

I tried a Micro-Innovations wireless keyboard that connected through usb, a microsoft intellitype pro with fingerprint reader, and a generic rollupt usb keyboard. On each one, not a single F key works, even after installing and updating drivers.
