My motherboard want bad - dell shipped a new one and had the local service rep install it. After he left, I discovered an approx 1.5 inch, 10 cable jumper lying on the floor.

After turniong on the computer, I discovered that the touchpad and media direct buttons no longer worked.

Contacted dell - they refused to send the guy back to fix it - they want to re-install the operating system ! No way.

I am a fairly literate computer person so I took the laptop apart and discovered the location on the motherboard where the jumper plugs in.

The jumper is bent to come beside the motherboard and comes out right under the touchpad....this is where I am stuck.

The only open connection that I can find under the touchpad is for a ribbon strip - not a 10-pin plug in.

Am I missing a piece ? Anybody have an idea ?

Thanks for the link to the Dell manual - looks like I am missing a ribbon cable.
I will contact Dell and see what they say.
