I had a delay on my computer, and decided to re-build it which saved 200 dollars.

However,, it appears there is no longer a cjhoic ein any configuration (US) to include a wireless-n card on the 1420!

If you can find a way to add a wireless N modem online let me know because it appears the choices have been stripped out for the 1420 (it is there for the 1520).

I noticed the same thing on the UK site when trying to build the Vostro 1400. Maybe their out of stock.

I dont think they would totally take them off the choices if they are out of stock. They usually say "Will delay shipping date".

Either buy the N card aftermarket or via an express card...

I'm trying to buy a comnputer with everything.. built in.. not an express card or any card afterwards...

This is crazy... Even the 1520 can be configured with Dell Wireless n.. ONLY the 1420 can not!

And of course it says in the tech specs for it that you can. it is one of the choices (that dont exist when you build it)

I am not happy.. I want wireless n and it just disappeared from this unit.. Someone tell me if they find out any more information on this... Now I have to wait to order.. AGAIN.. I have been waiting since MAY!!!!

dell regularly drops parts from their choices depending on availability of parts. it's part of their business model ("just-in-time inventory") and it's how they keep their costs down.

if you wait, you will see it again. if you've researched dell computers for any length of time you see this happen quite often. so relax, take a deep breath, and if you really don't want to wait, just buy from another company.

Or while requesting the quotation I think you can ask the DELL CSR to add it for you....

EDIT: It is still available for the 1420 on DELL India site....

Why would every other machine offer this but the 1420 don't? Its obviously not out of stick, The CSR couldn't add it..

Why would the 1420 now no longer have wireless N availale... this makes NO sense!

A week has gone by and STILL no wireless N available when configuring a 1420... In fact they give you a choice of TWO wireless Gs... like that really would make much of a difference...

Has anyone else ever seen items disappear like this.... especially something like this where Dell always talks aboiut getting connected... but doesnt offer the latest wireless technology?

I hope they come back to the configuration... I dont want to open the thing up and start medeling with it the minite I get it...

Does anyone think they will return, or they will just stop offering it with the new 1420s?? It is even still listed in tech specs as well as in the HELP ME CHOOSE popup...

Do you expect to be in the range of Wireless-N routers anytime soon? And if you buy the Intel 4965 N card by itself, you can just replace your G card down the road.

I'm not that technical to do that.. I saw you have to open the bototm.. then the drivers and software will be an issue.

and that isnt posible because the dell rep on chat said the card is a different size! Is that true????

Yes of course I wil be with wireless N.. I bought an N router for that reason...

This is crazy .. why would they take it off the config!

and i just checked they use the same cards as the 1520 and 1720 so they have to be the same size.. the part numbers are the same i.e. dell 1390 etc... check for yourself when you go to build them

It's available for the 1420 off the North America site.... I have a catalog also that lets me get a 250gb harddrive, Wireless N and a 9 cell bundle for $100 off the 1420.

That all doesn't make sense.. its available off the North America site... its available on all the other Inspirons.. Why wouldn't it be available for the American Dell 1420? I would almost think it is a websitre glitch that the part is missing but the CSRs also say nothing they can do about it.... I am still waiting...

Ok Here comes the reason WHY.

Dell is dropping the N- wir. option in some country's on some system the reason is
    1. the don't have enough N cards availble anymore
    what caused
    2. a delay of 15 (work)days
thats why the left it out

if you can still select it thank god and hope your system won't have to much delay.

btw it will most likley be avalible again after 2-3 weeks.

I just placed an order for this exact notebook and was also kinda steamed that they didnt offer an N-card with it, I hate it, I have an N router, and for what? Nothing...well for me anyways.
