Just for those of you who don't know yet, or have already purchased, Dell recently dropped the option for WSXGA+ (1680x1050)screens early today forcing customers to choose between WXGA+ 1440x900 CCFL, WXGA+ 1440x900 LED, or WUXGA 1920x1200. The good, no worries about getting an LG or Samsung. Bad? You have to choose between the uber small texted WUXGA or the lower res 720p WXGA+. What could this mean? Could Dell be making room for an LED 1680x1050 in June or early July? Only time will tell.

I think an LED backlit 1680x1050 panel would be perfect.

I think 1440x900 is pretty fine too :-D

If they do offer the higher res LED then great for new buyers to take advantage for. I for one dont think im missing out by getting a 1440x900 resolution. Im sure 1080p movies look great in 720p aswell :-D

I cant wait to crack open the LOTR series!

Edit: If they find someone to manufactor them at a higher satisfaction rate than Samsung they might bring the CCLD back

Well even though I have a WSXGA+ LG... if I ordered one yesterday, I woud have bought either the WXGA+ LED or WUXGA... No way I would go through the angst and frustration of getting an LG again :\

How do you tell it's an LG? what's the diff? :D

I tried Crysis and at 1680 it was an impressive slideshow on the 8600GT :D

Settings can't be high. I'm pretty sure you ran at a res lower than that.

If it disappears it doesn't necessarily mean its gone for good. It could be supply issues or maybe they just got sick of people complaining about it. It would be nice if they replaced it with a LED version.

    So which is it?

The topic line reads 1680x1050 yet the thread content reads 1680x768....

And for the record once again my screen is absolutely fine. :p

Yeah, I thought you already knew already. I'm surprised it took this many posts for people to catch it. You've passed my test. I am pleased. :p

I highly doubt they'd remove it because they are low on stock. It'd say "May delay your shipping.", if it were the case, then LED screens and WUXGA screens wouldve been taken down late April when the delays were hard hitting.

I also had an LG screen ... the first time. It had an annoying blue stuck pixel, so I had my notebook replaced. (no way that I was gonna look at that blue dot on my screen for the next 3 years or so) Anyway, my second one came with a Samsung screen, which had excessive light bleeding and yet an other stuck pixel. (But I'm replacing this one as well :>)

my 1530 with the WSXGA+ 1680x1050 Resolution just shipped the other day and the invoice says it is a Samsung. Does this mean that if it is grainy I will not be able to replace it with an LG?

No, you can never request for an LG or any specific part number when you get a replacement. They use whatever they have there. Most likely its gonna be a samsung.

I am getting a replacement though I wanted to get one without an Optiarc drive because it was very loud and clippy, but they said you cant request for parts. :/

I bought an m1530 from the outlet and it has a 1680*1050 panel.... Could be one of the last... A collector's item! Lets start the bidding at $4000? :D

i hope I dont get a grainy screen :( They wont have a 1680*1050 screen to replace it... I wouldn't mind a 1440*900 LED screen as a replacement

It looks like the WSXGA+ is still offered through the Small Business site. I'm not sure how the overall system price compares. Maybe they were just having trouble keeping up with demand.

I think we will be seeing a WXGA+ LED replacement soon, so that could explain why it is gone.

I wonder if this had anything to do with the Samsung problem. I ordered mine week and a half back, and still have a week and a half till it comes. I wonder if this will have any repercussions when it comes to getting a replacement if the screen does come bad. I really want to avoid the headache of this problem.

Yes you should be happy with it.
LG is much better than Samsung -- at least in the 15" size.

Well... you should be happy unless you've laid eyes on an LED backlit display. Then you might feel some regret. But the odds of that happening are small, and you already paid and received your notebook, so yes. You should be happy. 1680 is an awesome resolution.

Now that I mention it, I've noticed the Alienware m15x also doesn't have an option for 1680x1050. Why oh why are they forcing 1920...

I think LG screens are better than Samsungs overall.
I had a Inspiron 9300, which had both LG and Samsung WXGA+ matte screens. Samsung tend to have "sparkle" (i am not sure if that is what everyone calls grain? it looks like dust on the screen), and have more light leakage.
Also, have an Inspiron 9400 which has a glossy LG WUXGA screen, that looks pretty much like my current WSXGA+ screen on M1530.

Wanted WUXGA initially because I am used to that resolution, but I am happy with my LG WSXGA+.

I received an m1530 with the 1680x1050 Samsung screen and I can find no fault with it. No bleeding and no graininess whatsoever. :)

My 1680x1050 isn't grainy. Had backlight bleed. Traded it for an LED screen at no cost.

The reason why there is no backlight bleed is because there is not enough light to cause any bleeding. LEDs are brighter, so they tend to bleed more. But... I havn't had any bleeding problems.
