I think there may be something wrong with my hard drive so I tried running the hard drive tests that are part of the Dell Diagnostics utilities. The one called "Read Test" seems to take an unusually long time. After 4 hours of running this one test it was only on 27% done. Is that normal? This is on a 7200rpm Hitachi 200GB drive with 4GB RAM and about 100GB of free space.

    I've run chkdsk C: /r /v
Last week it found registry errors, but no bad sectors.
Same thing when I ran it this week. For example

Deleting corrupt attribute record <128,""> from file record segment 79587
    and later
Inserting data attribute into file 79587

Today it took 5 minutes to display the one-time boot menu after using F12 key. It didn't take that long last week. Even though chkdsk isn't showing bad sectors, I don't think this drive is behaving normally.

Could this be the result of a bad image or does it sound like the drive has a hardware problem? Or could something other than the hard drive produce this result?
