Well I'm trying figure out what notebook to get.. I've got my mind set on the Inspiron 9300 because I'm really looking for atleast 256mb vid card and 1GB ram.. so it seems like a good deal.. anyhow, in Canada currently they are giving free 100gb HD's! (yay Yay! ) Exept the freaking things are 4200 RPM and if I opt for say.. a 60GB 7200 it's costing me 300$ more, which really jacks up the price!

So what do you guys think? 4200RPM seems awful, is it going to be that bad?

It probably won't be bad for gaming cause you are not going using the hard drive that much. But for overall syetem performance it will be slow. Dell here recently upgraded their hard drives to 5400RPM drives even though they are telling people it is 4200RPM, not sure if that applies to Dell Canada. Me personally, I couldn't live with less than 7200RPM. The 5400RPM drive are probably a better value cause those 7200s are so damned expensive right now. You'll see a bigger boost going from 4200 to 5400 than 5400 to 7200. Good Luck

If its 300$ US buy the 7k60 or a larger 5400 on your own for ~150$ , switch and use the 100GB as a handy external drive (~20$ for a case ) . I did so with the 40GB drive I got with mine .
