It seems like everyone loves their D820, but nobody is satisfied with the D620? Is this true, that the D820 is that much different than the 620? If so, can you all tell me why and give some things you like and dislike about each system?

I am happy with my D620.

    Pros:
battery life, recharge time, power, build, customer service, dual pointing stick/mouse pad

    Cons:
single speaker, limited viewing angles in the vertical direction and lack of dedicated video card, no firewire port

I also keep hearing the same thing Titanium. Can I ask you how the noise heat levels are? When you say limited viewing angles what exactly do you mean? I am looking for a sturdy built laptop and something that is very quiet and doesnt generate alot of heat.

Can you explain this more before I go and place my order. I have been using thinkpads for years and have loved them.Dell is making me alittle nervous after all the bad reviews of the d620.

    Thanks..

What bad reviews? There is no perfect notebook. If you have liked ThinkPads why not get one of those.

When you view the screen from above the screen is bright. Obviously to accomodate for it, I adjust the angle so I can see it.

It is hot in the center but not too bad on the sides. The palm rest is not hot either. The fan and HD is barely audible.

This is a solid computer and its pluses outweigh the minuses. Outfitted with 2 Ghz, 1 GB RAM (soon to be 2 GB) and a 100 GB 7200 RPM HD, this thing is fast. I can do exactly what I purchased it to do: multitasking.

The review from www.laptopmag.com was not bad at all. There will always be someone who is a splitter and will never be satisfied. You just take the best of what you have.

As I tell my daughter, "You get what you get and you don't get upset".

thanks again for answering my question. some guy on here talked about a high pitch noise when using it on battery and that scared me. Do you think the keyboard is a good quality? do you think that its comparable to a thinkpad?

The only reason I am looking at a dell now is because lenovo quality has went down the toilet. my buddy works for themsand tells me everyday how the service calls just tumble in since ibm sold the pc division. the quality is just not there anymore.. sorry i am spoiled!!

Keyboard and mouse pad/buttons are excellent in quality. I personally do not like the X60 or Sony SZ keyboards. I never touched a T60 but I liked the T43.

The dilemma for me was between the T60 and D620. The D620 won for more reasons than cost.

I agree with you. I ordered the x60 and returned it in one day. I also saw the t60 and thought it felt very cheap. I also liked the t43, but thought the fan was really loud. So you basically are saying that the computer in a quiet room is hard to hear?

That doesn't make any sense. The T60s are just now starting to come out in larger quantities and all the other T series notebooks were designed while IBM was in charge. I obviously can't argue what your friend said, but it hasn't been my experience.

    Hi All

Can any one tell me if they have experienced freezing problems with these laptops. We have just recieved 3 of these and each one of them freezes either when you do Ctrl /Alt / Delete on initial logon or if you have locked the workstation and left it for a while. This is really annoying now as i have rebuilt 2 of them on more than one occasion and its still happening

    Thanks

I'm looking to get either a T60 or a D620 (mid-range specs)....prices being equal i'd almost definitely get a T60. At the moment (even with my student discount) Dell is only about $100 cheaper. AND that's without a dedicated video card. c'mon dell!

I sometimes just do not understand dell. They make great looking machines, but do not make quality. I was hoping the new latitude line was going to be a turn around for the company with the new magnesuim casing and etc. It looks like we are still dealing with the same d610 for d600 junk. Those machines were nightmares with all the electrical noise problems. Come on dell get it right for once and gain market share!!!!!!

That has not been my experience - I just got a D820 and it seems great. We have used Dell since the C600's and I don't find quality to be an issue.

I second hurricane; I also got my D820 last week and have no quality issues at all, although it seems thicker than expected.

This makes sense if you think about it. Many people post on these forums to get help with an issue they are having, so it is only natural that most of what you read would be about computer problems, since people rarely complain about getting a good, reliable computer. Overall, I think the D820 has received more positive feedback and praise on nbr than most other laptops.

5 lbs with the 6 cell and DVD burner.
    5.5 lbs with a 9 cell battery.

Quality is not an issue with the D620 here. I ran it 13 hours a day for 6 days straight without locking or crashes. It is most likely due to the paucity of bloatware and the fact that I run privacy software, a firewall, an antivirus and TSR antispyware with Firefox and No scripts for an extension.

I 100% agree. I've been using Dell product (Desktop and Laptop) over 8 years now. No major problem except one the power connector (Laptop) was broken and Dell had it service and as promised returned it to me in 72 hours.

I had a Sony before Dell and the Sony only last just few months after the warranty.

Look, there always someone like or dislike any Brand. Even processor look at the debate on AMD vs INTEL.

When you read people's complain keep a clear mind about the issue. Many people do not take care of their stuffs and blame it on the company who made them.
