    Hello,

Can you tell me who is the manufacturer for the 7200RPM hard drives being used in the Dell D620s?

HItachi is one of the best drives..... why is that a bummer? What drive were you expecting?

Everyone's set of experiences is different. Myself I've had bad luck with them in the past. I haven't had any experience with Seagate laptop drives but I'd probably go somewhere unknown than use hitachi drives.

My laptop experience typically is good for toshiba fluid bearing drives.
    PCs - western digital
    servers -seagate.

But as I say everyone has there own experiences so I'm sure some people will completely disagree with my preferences.

How can you guys be sure that it's a Hitachi? Dell uses many different companies products. For example in my XPS M140 I have a Sony DVD Burner, and a Fujitsu HD. In a friends he has a NEC DVD Burner and a Seagate HD. I wouldn't be at all surprised if dell put a 7200 RPM Seagate HD in the D620

Yup, that is true. When you call for support and it comes to replacing a part, you can ask the tech what parts od they have. He will mostly shoot out the choices he sees on his screen and you can often make your pick. I used to make the customers take their pick when I used to work for Dell :).

Boe: It's unfortunate that you have had bad experiences with hitachi drives. Well, sure Toshiba's pathetically slow 4200 RPM drives may just be more stable, but I will need a knife on my throat to pick the snail-pace-age drive from Toshiba over any other reputed brand.

My 7200RPM, 100GB drive in my D620 is made by Hitachi. FYI
