    Hello all,
I sent my daughters D600 latitude laptop back to the seller for repair and now the screen lights but there are dark spots on the screen. It is mostly bright but has noticeable darkness on the left side and slight darkness on the right side. Could it be the backlights going out or could it still be a bum inverter? And can anyone explain how to remove the lcd panel? I have another new inverter and am somewhat familier having replaced a inverter on a Panasonic Toughbook.

    Thanks for any quick help,

    Kevin

I guess my question is can the inverter still be somewhat bad and cause the dark shades on the screen...of is a inverter either good or bad? Or is it more likely that the backlight is going bad in these areas. I have another good inverter to try but the backlight seems to be more delicate and challenging.

brighter and darker spots could be due to positioning of the inverter. I believe LCD tvs or even desktops LCDs are not designed to have the inverter powering the whole panel from bottom up.

laptops LCDs, limited by space, have inverters at the bottom. its hard to tell whether if an inverter is good or bad. it is even harder to tell backlight leak versus faulty inverter.

the thing about the inverter is that it does not span the whole width of the panel, so its bound to have the ends slightly darker than those in the centre bottom. if u have on-site warranty, you might want to get a dell technician to come down and test it for you and check out the difference.

even i am very good at diy replacement, i would need to know specifically the voltages, suitability of the replacement inverter. I would rather the laptop die at the hands of a DELL guy, than die at my own hands..wahaha..

hope it sheds some light..I have this inverter issue about dark and bright areas also, and dell gladly changed it for me on-site. though the replacement did not bring about any changes to the brightness and darkness patches..

Thanks for the informative reply. I bought the laptop used at a computer show and the lcd went dark 2 weeks later. I sent it back to ther guy and he fixed it. The screen now lights with the definitive dark left and right side...bright as can be in the middle. I am not sure if he changed the inverter or the screen. Of course now he doesnt return my phone calls. The screen was completely bright when I purchased it. Thanks again..I will try another inverter.

i hope your replacement will yield better results.

the thing about warranty hardware repairs is that there is no guarantee you will get a brand new part fresh from the factory.

its probably a 50-50 chance of getting a refurbished hardware or a fresh from factory one..

I would agree with that...especially since this is a small dealer, repair business. Could a backlight actually go half bad and is it difficult to replace? Im reading that it is difficult although I am somewhat inclined. If it is th backlight is it better to just replace the LCD? Thanks for your reply and help.
