    Hi,

My work computer is a Dell D600 laptop, currently running 512MB of PC2700 RAM (2 x 256), with a maximum capacity of 2GB.

I've just tried to install a PC2700 1GB module, but the machine doesn't like it. It won't boot, it simply sits there with the caps lock indicator flashing.

I also tried it with one of the existing 256's as well as the 1GB - again just flashing. I reinstalled both 256's and it's happy again.

Any ideas as to why the 1GB won't work??

    Background -
The spec sheet states that the machine takes PC2100 RAM, but I've read online that running PC2700 should work, and as I said, it currently has PC2700 in it. The spec sheet also says that it will take a 1GB stick.

    Thanks for your help.

You may need to update your BIOS. You might also have a bad piece of RAM.

You have the 1 gb stick in the first slot, right?
