    Hey Everyone,

I received a 35% off coupon from Dell randomly last week. It states that it expires on July 26th. Does that mean that it won't work on the 26th, or after the 26th - the 27th.

I didn't know if I should order an e1705 today, tomorrow, or even wait. Is it worth waiting to see if prices drop and if the Merom becomes available? I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for the 64bit chip, but I will need the laptop for college in September. I will have this laptop for four years and want to make it as "future proof" as possible. Will a 64bit proc really make a big difference over the next 4 years?

Any advise or explanation is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Dell usually announces new coupons on Thursday so I doubt you will see new offers on Wednesday. I believe that the coupon should work on the 26th, but I am not absolutely sure. Does anyone else know? As for the computer itself, if you only need it in September then I would wait a bit longer. Prices for dual core notebooks are likely to fall after Merom has been released. Also, Dell might have a back to school sale soon.

The back to school sales are not that great. Coupons are not combinable. Taking it wasn't last year. The prices of notebooks may come down but not like from 700 to 500 but from 700-650

If the coupon states "expires on the 26th," then you should be able to use it up until 11:59 pm on the 26th (unless there is also a time specificed). It probably won't work on the 27th.

I think the general rule is that if you need a laptop now or if you see a great deal, then you should get the laptop. However, if you think you can wait or want Merom, then you should wait until those come out. I do not know the timing of Merom though or if it will be available before you need it for school.

I am not sure how future proof the E1705 is.

Well I guess my primary fear is that I will buy the laptop on the 26th. Then the Merom will be released the next day causing prices to drop and me to be left with more expensive, older, technology. Do I need a 64bit proc? The honest answer is I dont know. I am very computer literate and understand what 64bit processing means, but will it be prevelant in 4 years? Will it yield a double (yea..) increase in performance over 32bit? Will notebook meroms be ready before september? I just don't know. You understand my apprehension and confusion, however.

You can always cancel your order... as long as it hasn't shipped it! So... just order and see how it goes. I agree with the advise above to order when you see a good deal and need the laptop. Another option (in case something else comes out after the laptop has shipped) is to sell your laptop on craigslist (I am sure you will even be able to make some money if you are patient) and then place another order. Just my 2 cents.

Im with ya, I have the same coupon and am buying the same laptop. I think I may order it tonight and I should have a few days still to cancel the order if merom is released on the 27th. Thats if i decide to wait. Im only getting the one year warrenty because i will likely void within six months by upgrading to merom anyway If i stick with the one i order now. I too need my laptop before the end of the summer and am tired/frustrated with playing this waiting game.

Well I suppose I will order it tomorrow and see what happens. Is merom definately comming out the 27th? Also, how long does it take before the notebook ships? I want to know the window I have to cancel it. Thanks for everyone's help!
