Okay, so My office dropped a bombshell on me two days ago. They want me and my wife to relocate from California to Bologna, Italy, in about 3 months.

Assuming Dell ships my 1520 by then (ha ha) what will the status of my complete care warranty be? I have the full 2 year "in Home" with accidental damage.

What happens if next year my Lappy falls out of my gondola in venice and get soaked, or the pope runs over it or something? Im thinking that the "next day, in-hope repair" thing might not extend to my new home in italy.

Will it? Anyone know? Will I just need to mail it in, instead? Is theft covered even in the USA? I hear there are lots of sticky-fingered types in the cafes in Italy, and I'll need to watch it like a hawk.

Also, anyone here live near Bologna, Italy?

    Thanks.

That would definitely be something to ask customer service.... in writing.

You should contact Dell and ask their policy--it's not something that anyone here will be able to answer 100% for you. As suggested, be SURE to get something in writing from someone who has he power to make a decision like that.

Yeah, I guess I should ask them directly.

More than likely, if it is damaged, and repairing it is neccesary, I'll need to send it to a US address first and have it serviced there.

That would be a hassle - but I guess it is still worth it to keep the warranty. But it wouldnt be "in Home" anymore. Just very expensive "mail in"

    Oh well.

Well just in case anyone else was wondering, Dell has a process/form for transfering the warranty between countries. You are supposed to wait 6 months after purchase in the USA before you can transfer the warranty to another country (probably to prevent people from buying cheaper warranties here) but a dell rep told me to ignore that 6 month rule if I want.

Anyway, here is the link the dell rep gave me, for anyone else who is curious about transfering warranties between countries.
